When You Need a New Roof

Roofs don’t last forever, especially in South Dakota. If your roof is 20 years or older, has widespread shingle damage, or you’re seeing water stains on interior ceilings, a full replacement is usually the smarter investment over continued patching.

Based in Huron and serving Eastern & Central South Dakota, Even Construction handles tear-offs, new installs, and everything in between. We walk you through what’s involved, give you a clear number, and schedule the work when it’s right for you.

What Goes Into a Roof Installation

A proper installation isn’t just nailing shingles to a surface. Here’s what’s involved in a full installation:

  • Tear-off and disposal of the existing roofing material
  • Decking inspection and repair if needed
  • Ice and water shield along eaves and in valleys
  • Roofing felt / synthetic underlayment
  • Starter strips along eaves
  • Shingle installation with proper fastening and stagger
  • Step and counter flashing at walls, chimneys, and penetrations
  • Ridge cap installation
  • Cleanup and magnet sweep for nails

Repair vs. Replace — How We Think About It

We don’t push replacements when a repair will do the job. But we also don’t let people patch a roof that’s past its useful life just to get through another season.

Signs it’s time to replace rather than repair:

  • Roof is 20–25 years old or older
  • Multiple leaks or widespread shingle damage
  • Shingles are curling, buckling, or losing granules
  • Sagging or soft spots in the deck
  • Previous repairs keep failing in the same areas

Certainteed Shingles & 50-Year Warranty

As a certified Certainteed Shinglemaster, Even Construction installs high-quality Certainteed shingles and can provide warranty coverage that standard contractors cannot. Ask about the 50-year shingle warranty when you request your estimate.
